A Christmas Present for Baby Jesus    When I was a kid it was evident that we celebrated Christmas as Jesus' birthday, but we never got anything for Baby Jesus.  Even Santa Claus got cookies and milk but nothing for the actual birthday Boy.    Did you ever wonder what you could get Jesus on His birthday?

How to use the First Christmas Present    as a gift to Jesus.

  Wrap up all the presents as usual, but in addition wrap up the First Christmas Present with the label "To Baby Jesus." Make sure the kids only see this one after all their other presents otherwise they may be too distracted by the anticpated next present for themselves.

   Depending on their ages, they will likely be bewildered wondering how Baby Jesus can use this present today.  The enclosed pamphlet speaks of how the elements gold, frankincense, and myrrh speak of who Baby Jesus grew up to be.
   
GOLD
  says to Baby Jesus, “You are a King.”  The wise men asked,  “Where is he that is born King of the Jews?” (Matt 2:2).   He may not have acted like a king during most of His earthly ministry, but at its end He said to Pilate.

       You are right in saying I am a king. In fact, for this reason I was born, and for this reason I 
             came into the world, to testify to the truth.  Everyone on the side of truth listens to me.

     There is no doubt that He is a King. The only question is whether He has the place of being a King our hearts.  If he doesn't have this then this is a present we can give Him.

FRANKINCENSE 
  as its name implies is “incense.”  The High Priest burned it as a holy fragrance to God.  (Exodus 30:34). Its presentation to Jesus says to Him, “You will be a Priest.”  
    A priest is like a bridge between God and man.   Jesus came as our High Priest (Hebrews 4:14), One Who is able to sympathize with all our weaknesses having been tempted in every way, yet without sin.  He is the One Who can lead us to the Father. 

     The frankincense further speaks of the fact that the Baby is also God.  Gold is a gift given to a king and frankincense is burned to God.  Again, the gift that we can give him is the role of Priest and God in our lives.

MYRRH
   from the Arabic word for bitter is a bitter herb, with many medicinal used but it was most famous as a burial spice.   In fact, the Egyptians buried mummies in it and Jesus, given myrrh at His birth, was buried in it at His death (John 19:39).

   The gold spoke of His destiny to be a King.  The frankincense said that He would be a Priest, bridging the gap between us and the Father and also pointed to his divinity.  The myrrh told us that He would be our Sacrifice, openeing the door to eternal life.
   
    This is a gift completely from God to us (John 3:16).  It's presents reminds us that before we can give him the gift of His rightful pace in our hearts we have to accept the Sacrifice He's offered us.  Like a present under the tree, we have to accept it.
