Christian Baby Gift

What makes a Baby present a Christian Baby present?   A Christian Baby Gift honors not only the new life in this world but the Creator of life.    When we see a new baby we are awed by the potential of the child to be anything God may want him or her to be, to be someone who could change the whole world.  We think of the new life given to the Baby’s family and we think of our new life in Him.  We think of the hopefully long life the baby has ahead and it reminds us of eternal life.
   A Christian Baby present would
celebrate all of this and point to Jesus.
                                                                  Only $14.95

To honor a new baby and  Him what better present could be we give than the same present He got as a Baby?
When we think of His presents, gold, frankincense and myrrh we obviously think of Christmas, but these were the Original Birthday Presents and they speak to us any time of the year.

GOLD
is the gift to royalty.  It says to the new baby in our life “you’re special” and to Baby Jesus, “You are a King.” He may not have lived like an earthly king but  He knew He was a king (John 18:37) and so did the Wise men (Matt 2:2)

We may think not only of the great potential of a new baby but also of the challenges ahead which so require God’s help.  Gold also speaks of this because of its durability and strength under pressure.  We remember  Job who amidst more trials than we could imagine, said that when God tested him he would “come forth as gold.” (Job 23:10). Beyond the baby steps under your protection your child will face great trials in life, but it will be faith which tried like fire will help him through it. (I Peter 1:6-7).
Many people run after this world’s gold, but Jesus has His own gold, a steadfast faith, that can really make us rich in Him.

I counsel you to buy from me gold refined in the fire, so you can become rich.
                                                                                                    Revelation 3:18

FRANKINCENSE
is a calming, soothing herb, something that matches how we feel as we look at the new sleeping baby.    Frankincense oil is thought to have stimulating, toning and warming properties.  Perhaps it spoke of Jesus as the Prince of Peace (Isaiah 9:6).  Frankincense is also an incense, as its name suggests, and the High Priest burned it as a holy fragrance to God.  (Exodus 30:34). Its presentation to Jesus says to Him, “You will be a Priest.”   A priest is like a bridge between God and man, someone who can lead us to God.   In giving it to a new Baby we are saying that yes, you will need this bridge also.  Jesus came as our High Priest (Hebrews 4:14), one who is able to sympathize with all our weaknesses having been tempted in every way, yet without sin.  He is the One Who can lead us to the Father.  And as our High Priest,  He lives now to intercede for his people (Hebrews 7:25).

The frankincense further speaks of the fact that the Baby is also God.  Gold is a gift given to a king and frankincense is burned to God.

MYRRH
from the Arabic word for bitter is a bitter herb.  It’s considered a wound healer because of its antiseptic properties and a pain medicine because it’s an anti-inflammatory .  It was a preservative and so we might hiope that it would be symbolic of the long life we hope for our childrend.  But that’s not really what it would have meant to a family of Jesus time.  It was most famous then as ….. a burial spice.  In fact, the Egyptians buried mummies in it and Jesus given myrrh at His birth was buried in it at His death (John 19:39).

But why would the wise men celebrate death at all, especially at the Baby’s birth?  This would be like someone giving you formaldehyde to celebrate a new addition to the family.
For Jesus it said “You will be a Sacrifice.”  You will be the one who opens the door to heaven by offering your life for the sins of many.  For the new baby the gift of myrrh says, “You are so important that Jesus, God the Son, came to die as a Sacrifice to die for you.”    What greater blessing is there than this?
