Sunday School
As Sunday School teachers we strive to bring God's word to life
and to make it real for our kids. This Christmas one way you can do that
is by showing your kids real Gold, Frankincense and Myrrh and by telling them
about Jesus through their object lessons.
GOLD says to Baby Jesus, “You
are a King.” It also speaks of the enduring faith
which is ours in Jesus (I Peter 1:6-7, Job 23:10).
was an herb thought to be calming and soothing, but more famous in Jewish
culture as “incense.” The High Priest burned it as a holy fragrance to
God. (Exodus 30:34). Its presentation to Jesus says to Him, “You will be a
Priest.” The frankincense
further speaks of the fact that the Baby is also God. Gold is a gift given
to a king and frankincense is burned to
God. MYRRH
It was a
preservative and was used as a burial spice. In fact, the Egyptians buried
mummies in it and Jesus given myrrh at His birth was buried in it at His death
(John 19:39).
Ask your kids how they'd feel if when they were born
their mom got embalming fluid?
Sounds crazy but it drives home the point that Jesus was marked to die for
us.
Each box comes with a pamphlet that relates
the original three gifts to the Gospel which could be the basis for your Sunday
School lesson. It also plays on the imagery of opening a gift at Christmas
being symnbolic how how we take the gift of Jesus. If you are using the
First Christmas Present for your Sunday School, tell us how many extra
pamphlets you'd like in the comment section of checkout and we will send them
for free (while supplies last). |
